Menopause Deserves Better Than 'Just Live With It'
Too many women are told that menopause symptoms are 'just part of aging.' Hot flashes? Normal. Weight gain? Expected. Brain fog? Just stress. This dismissive approach leaves women suffering unnecessarily.
The truth is that menopause is a significant metabolic and hormonal shift that affects your bones, heart, brain, weight, mood, and quality of life. And there is so much that can be done, if someone actually takes the time to create a proper plan.
At Menolia, Dr. Suganya combines modern evidence-based medicine with holistic wellness to help you not just manage symptoms, but protect your long-term health and genuinely thrive.

Common Questions
About Menopause Reversal, Honestly Answered
By Dr. Suganya Venkat, OB-GYN with 15+ years of clinical experience.
Can menopause be reversed?
Menopause is the permanent end of ovarian oestrogen production and cannot be reversed. It is a life transition, not a disease. What can be reversed, or significantly reduced, are the symptoms it produces: hot flashes, sleep disturbance, low mood, brain fog, vaginal dryness, weight gain, and joint pain. Strength training, sleep work, targeted nutrition, stress care, and where appropriate HRT (NICE NG23; International Menopause Society 2024 guidance) all act on the symptoms, not on the underlying hormonal shift. The shift is biology. The suffering does not have to be.
Is there a cure for menopause?
No, and the question itself reflects a misunderstanding worth naming. Menopause is not a disease; it is a normal life transition. A cure implies a disease to remove. There is none here. What does exist, and is well-supported by evidence, is comprehensive symptom management. NICE NG23 and International Menopause Society 2024 guidance cover the full toolkit: HRT for women who choose it and have no contraindication, non-hormonal medicines for specific symptoms (SSRIs, gabapentin, fezolinetant where available), CBT, strength training, and targeted nutrition. Menolia helps women choose between these with the evidence in front of them.
Can menopause symptoms be reversed without HRT?
Many of them can be substantially reduced, yes. Strength training, sleep work, targeted Indian nutrition, stress care, and CBT all have evidence for hot flashes, sleep, mood, and weight changes. Non-hormonal medications (SSRIs/SNRIs, gabapentin, clonidine, fezolinetant where available) help when lifestyle alone is not enough. HRT is one option among several when symptoms are severe or bone and heart protection are priorities. The right plan depends on which symptoms are loudest for you, your overall risk profile, and your own preferences.
Can lifestyle changes stop menopause from happening?
No. The age of natural menopause is set mostly by ovarian reserve, which is determined by genetics, with smaller effects from smoking (which advances it by 1 to 2 years), some surgeries, and certain medical treatments. Diet, supplements, exercise, and "anti-ageing" protocols cannot meaningfully postpone the timing. What lifestyle does change, and powerfully, is symptom severity, bone density, heart health, weight composition, and quality of life through the transition. That is a more useful target than delaying biology that is not delayable.
Does HRT reverse menopause?
No. HRT replaces some of the oestrogen (and often progesterone) the ovaries no longer make, which significantly reduces hot flashes, sleep disturbance, vaginal symptoms, and bone loss. It does not restart ovarian function or restore fertility. The current evidence (NICE NG23; British Menopause Society 2022; International Menopause Society 2024) supports HRT for symptom relief and for bone protection in women who choose it and have no contraindication, with the decision tailored to each woman's risk profile. It is a powerful symptom tool, not a reversal of menopause.
How long do menopause symptoms last, and do they reverse on their own with time?
Vasomotor symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats) last on average 7 to 10 years from onset, with substantial individual variation, and they do eventually fade for most women (Avis et al. 2015, JAMA Internal Medicine). Vaginal and urinary symptoms (genitourinary syndrome of menopause) do not fade with time and usually progress without treatment. Sleep, mood, and cognitive symptoms vary. Waiting them out is reasonable for some women; for others, active management makes the years they are present substantially more livable.
